Ascension of The Great Attractor is the opening track off of The Lightsenders debut album 'Derek Is An Astronaut'. This post-rock instrumental album tells the story of a futuristic dystopian society of humans that are forced to search for a permanent habitat away from Earth or face extinction. This album takes you on a journey that modulates between despair and triumph as we navigate the cosmos, sending light signals transcoded with data, trying desperately to find someone to save us from an ecosystem that is actively fighting for its own survival.
In The Ascension of The Great Attractor we discover how our deficiencies in propulsion technology and biological limitations will never allow meaningful exploration of distant galaxies that can support life. The universe is expanding at a rate that out-paces the speed of light, let alone our underwhelming ability to travel even short distances at those speeds with a particle of matter.....but what if we used light itself to send messages to these promising galaxies to find intelligent life capable of such feats?
