The Detachment Phenomenon

from Derek Is An Astronaut by The Lightsenders

/

about

The Detachment Phenomenon is the 4th track off of The Lightsenders debut album 'Derek Is An Astronaut'. This post-rock instrumental album tells the story of a futuristic dystopian society of humans that are forced to search for a permanent habitat away from Earth or face extinction. This album takes you on a journey that modulates between despair and triumph as we navigate the cosmos, sending light signals transcoded with data, trying desperately to find someone to save us from an ecosystem that is actively fighting for its own survival.

In The Detachment Phenomenon we are taken through a journey to the outer reaches of our own galaxy to create a station that will finally launch the encoded light source to our closest neighbors. It's a perilous journey fraught with disaster at every turn. Derek struggles with loneliness and detachment on the 13 year journey to the outer reaches, knowing he will never return. The loneliness of space is as suffocating as the vistas are breathtaking.
